DIY Beauty Procedures to Leave to the Pros

With everyone tightening up their wallets in this economy, more and more women are turning to Do-It-Yourself at home beauty treatments that would otherwise be done in a salon or doctor’s office. With the potential to save a few dollars, these women could be taking a risk with their appearance and even their health! Here are a few DIY beauty treatments that are gaining popularity with these gambling ladies.

Brazilian Peel – A medical strength at home peel kit that promises to save you hundreds compared to the doctor’s offices! This contains 30% glycolic acid that could do some damage if not used properly. The money you could save is not worth the price if you happen to be allergic or do not use the product as directed, which could result in a rash or even a severe burn. At our Orlando, Florida Plastic Surgery, Skin Care and Hair Restoration Center, we have a Paramedical Aesthetician that can assess your skin and select best skin care treatment for you!

Botox Parties – Everyone has heard of them, you might have even been to one, but Botox Parties are not all fun and games. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there are some important questions that you should ask before having Botox done, such as:
1. Is a qualified clinician administering the treatment?
2. Is the physical setting appropriate for administering medical treatment, including handling emergency situations?
3. Do you know what you are being injected with?
4. Will you receive adequate follow-up care?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then it is probably not a good idea to have the treatment. “Botox parties” may offer some benefit to patients by reducing the cost of their individual treatment. However, unless proper measures are in place to ensure both safety and effectiveness of treatments, ASAPS advises that you enjoy the party, but get your Botox injections in the doctor’s office.

DIY Mole Removal Kit
Although the idea of taking care of an unsightly mole sounds great, the reality is that it is something that could leave you with an ugly scar. The kits that are advertised, often have users scratch the surface of the mole, by using a needle or emery board, before applying what is claimed to be herbal ingredients that create ‘natural cauterisation’. This is where the skin is burnt, forming a scab, which eventually falls off. But the rough-and-ready approach does not appear to deter the thousands who buy products from these sites every year.  By trying to remedy a mole by themselves, people could be skipping a visit to their dermatologist for a mole that could potentially be cancerous.

Brightening those Pearly Whites
At home Teeth Bleaching kits are in every store, but be warned they are not for everyone. Those with sensitive chompers can end up with a very sore mouth.  Some kits even include illegal levels of Hydrogen Peroxide, which could aggravate gum disease, cause sensitive teeth, or even chemical burns in the mouth!
